United States District Judge Raag Singhal has sentenced David Lee Pitts, a 38-year-old career offender, to 135 months in federal prison. Pitts was charged with possession with intent to distribute cocaine, fentanyl, and oxycodone, as well as illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.
Pitts pleaded guilty to these charges on September 4, 2024. The incident leading to his arrest occurred on April 26, 2024. Law enforcement observed Pitts at a storage facility in Pompano, Florida. He transferred two bags containing illegal drugs from his storage unit to his car. Upon noticing law enforcement vehicles at the main gate, Pitts attempted to flee on foot and discarded the bags onto a nearby roof. Officers apprehended him and recovered the bags containing cocaine and alpha-PVP (flakka), a synthetic street drug.
A search of Pitts' storage unit under warrant revealed additional quantities of cocaine and flakka, along with fentanyl, oxycodone, and a Glock 30S pistol with ammunition.
