U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has awarded a contract to Granite Construction Co. for the construction of a new border wall segment in Hidalgo County, Texas. The contract, valued at $70,285,846, marks the first border wall project under President Trump's second term. This development aims to address unfinished sections left from previous cancellations during the Biden Administration.

The planned construction covers approximately seven miles within the U.S. Border Patrol’s Rio Grande Valley Sector. This area is known for high levels of illegal entry and smuggling activities. Completing these segments is expected to bolster the Department of Homeland Security's efforts to prevent illegal crossings and disrupt smuggling operations by cartels.

DHS is executing directives from President Trump’s Executive Orders titled “Securing our Borders” and “Declaring a National Emergency at the Southern Border of the United States.” These orders mandate the deployment and construction of physical barriers to achieve full operational control over the southern border.

CBP describes itself as America's largest law enforcement organization and a unified border management agency with over 65,000 personnel dedicated to protecting national security across land, air, and sea.
