CCIA comments on Mexico's proposed competition law reform

Following a constitutional reform that integrated the Mexican competition authority (COFECE) into the Executive branch, the Mexican government has proposed a new competition law. This proposal includes establishing a new entity, the National Antitrust Commission.

The Computer & Communications Industry Association (CCIA), which has promoted technology policy fostering competition and innovation for over 50 years, responded to this development.

CCIA President & CEO Matt Schruers commented on the situation: "As Mexico considers further updates to its competition authority, policymakers should engage key stakeholders from industry and beyond to obtain input on how to most efficiently foster the competitive process and advance consumers’ welfare."

Schruers also emphasized the importance of considering international agreements: "It will be crucial for policymakers to consider the existing international agreements Mexico is a part of, particularly those with the U.S. and Canada, when devising reforms to the country’s competition regime."
