John A. Sarcone III sworn in as U.S. Attorney for Northern District of New York

United States Attorney John A. Sarcone III delivered remarks at his swearing-in ceremony at the James T. Foley U.S. Courthouse in Albany, New York. During his speech, he expressed gratitude to Chief Judge Sannes and other judicial and court officials for their support.

Sarcone thanked his family, including his wife Cecilia and children John Anthony, Francesca, and Juliet, who were unable to attend. He also acknowledged the presence of several family members and friends who joined him for the occasion.

He extended appreciation to various political figures and colleagues such as Governor George Pataki, Senate Leader Rob Ortt, Senator Bill Weber, Assembly Leader Will Barclay, Assemblyman Robert Smullen, Ambassador Elise Stefanik, Justice Mark Dillon, Maury Heller, Al Buonamici, and John Ciampoli.

Sarcone reflected on his past role as the 14th Regional Administrator for the United States General Services Administration during the Trump Administration. He emphasized the significance of federal courthouses in projecting government authority.

In discussing recent achievements of his office since his appointment two weeks ago, Sarcone highlighted cases involving bank fraud by a Nigerian citizen living under stolen identities; an alien smuggling conspiracy resulting in deaths; and a former music teacher convicted of sexual abuse.

Sarcone outlined his vision for a good prosecutor: "A good prosecutor has wisdom, common sense... coupled with legal skills." He emphasized judgment over educational background or career experience alone.

He pledged to prioritize resources for securing borders, maintaining community safety, combating public corruption and consumer frauds targeting seniors; addressing illegal drug issues; fighting human trafficking; rooting out hate crimes; and protecting college students' rights against harassment based on religious beliefs.

Sarcone concluded by expressing honor at being appointed U.S. Attorney: "I am honored and humbled to be standing here before you."
