Honduran man sentenced for using false social security number to gain employment

A Honduran man has been sentenced for illegally using a Social Security number to secure employment, according to an announcement by Acting United States Attorney Michael M. Simpson. Jose David Sanchez, 28, was sentenced on March 13, 2025, for violating Title 42, United States Code, Section 408(a)(7)(B).

The sentence handed down by United States District Court Judge Barry W. Ashe includes time served—approximately four months—a year of supervised release, and a $100 special assessment fee.

Court documents reveal that Sanchez used the Social Security number of a U.S. citizen in his initial job application. On September 30, 2020, he visited the Gulf Coast Safety Council office in St. Rose, Louisiana to complete a safety course required for finalizing his employment with Company “A.” During this visit, Sanchez presented a fraudulent U.S. Social Security card bearing the name and number of a U.S. citizen as his own.

Acting U.S. Attorney Simpson commended the efforts of agents from United States Customs and Border Protection and the Social Security Administration in investigating the case. Assistant United States Attorney Jon Maestri from the General Crimes Unit led the prosecution.
