Oklahoma man sentenced to over seven years for illegal firearm possession

Robert J. "Bob" Troester U.S. Attorney | U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Oklahoma

Jesus Flores, a 42-year-old resident of Oklahoma County, has been sentenced to 92 months in federal prison for illegal firearm possession following a previous felony conviction. The announcement was made by U.S. Attorney Robert J. Troester.

The case stems from an incident on May 30, 2024, when officers from the Oklahoma City Police Department responded to an assault report. Flores had allegedly chased down another driver who cut him off on the highway and shot the individual in the head. The victim survived their injuries. During the investigation, officers found two firearms in a diaper bag belonging to Flores's child. Subsequently, on September 5, 2024, a federal Grand Jury charged Flores with being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Flores has an extensive criminal record with prior felony charges in California for carrying a concealed weapon in a vehicle, being a felon in possession of a firearm, and inflicting corporal injury on an intimate partner.

On December 17, 2024, Flores pleaded guilty to knowingly possessing two firearms despite his criminal history.

At his sentencing on March 17, 2025, U.S. District Judge David L. Russell imposed the sentence and emphasized the importance of protecting the public from further crimes by Flores. After serving his prison term, Flores will be subject to three years of supervised release.

The investigation was conducted by Homeland Security Investigations and the Oklahoma City Police Department with Assistant U.S. Attorney Jacquelyn M. Hutzell prosecuting.

This case is part of "Operation 922" and "Operation Shots Fired," initiatives under Project Safe Neighborhoods aimed at reducing gun violence and enforcing federal firearms laws within the Western District of Oklahoma.
