Honduran pleads guilty to illegal reentry into U.S., faces possible imprisonment

A Honduran national, Orlin Saul Hernandez-Torrez, has pleaded guilty to illegal reentry into the United States. Acting United States Attorney Michael M. Simpson announced the plea on March 13, 2025. Hernandez-Torrez, aged 48, was previously deported from the U.S. on two occasions: April 25, 2005, and November 8, 2019.

Court documents revealed that Hernandez-Torrez was found in the Eastern District of Louisiana on March 20, 2024. He had not obtained permission from either the Attorney General or the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security to reenter the country.

United States District Judge Susie Morgan has scheduled sentencing for June 17, 2025. Hernandez-Torrez could face a maximum sentence of two years in prison, a fine up to $250,000, up to one year of supervised release, and a mandatory special assessment fee of $100.

Acting U.S. Attorney Simpson commended the efforts of the United States Customs and Border Protection agency in this investigation. Assistant United States Attorney Jon Maestri from the General Crimes Unit is leading the prosecution.
