Michele Beckwith Acting U.S. Attorney | U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of California

Carlos Jordan Lopez, a 29-year-old resident of Fresno, has been sentenced to a decade in prison following his conviction for possession with intent to distribute significant quantities of illegal drugs. U.S. District Judge Jennifer L. Thurston delivered the sentence on Monday, as announced by Acting U.S. Attorney Michele Beckwith.

Court documents reveal that Lopez was apprehended on September 8, 2023, during a traffic stop on Interstate 5 near Shields Avenue in Fresno County. During the search of his vehicle's trunk, law enforcement discovered a spare tire containing approximately 485,000 fentanyl pills distributed across 28 packages. Additionally, officers found a bag holding 18 "bricks" of cocaine powder.

The investigation leading to Lopez's arrest and subsequent conviction involved multiple agencies including the California Highway Patrol, the California High Impact Investigation Team, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and the Fresno County District Attorney’s Office. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Justin Gilio alongside Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Dennis Lewis.
