Albany County man sentenced for child sexual abuse material distribution

Joshua White, a 47-year-old resident of Albany County, has been sentenced to 151 months in prison followed by 20 years of supervised release. This announcement was made by United States Attorney John A. Sarcone III and Erin Keegan, Special Agent in Charge of the Buffalo Field Office of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI).

White had previously pleaded guilty to distributing sexually explicit images of a minor known to him via text message. Additionally, when he met with police in July 2023, he was found in possession of child sexual abuse material on his phone, which depicted other victims obtained from the Internet and social media messaging applications.

In addition to his prison sentence, White is required to forfeit the property used in committing the offense and pay a special assessment and restitution amounting to $5,000 to the victim known to him. Upon release from prison, he must register as a sex offender.

The case was investigated by HSI and the New York State Police. Assistant United States Attorney Michael D. Gadarian prosecuted the case under Project Safe Childhood.

Project Safe Childhood is an initiative aimed at combating child sexual exploitation and abuse nationwide. It involves collaboration between U.S. Attorney’s Offices and the Criminal Division's Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section (CEOS), utilizing federal, state, and local resources to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals exploiting children online while also identifying and rescuing victims.
