A Ramsey County man has been sentenced to 70 months in prison for a series of carjackings and illegal firearm possession. Acting U.S. Attorney Lisa D. Kirkpatrick announced the sentence, which will be followed by three years of supervised release.

Court documents reveal that on June 30, 2022, Ricardo Rydell Walker, Jr., aged 22, approached the owner of a black 2021 Toyota Highlander as they exited the vehicle. He demanded everything from the driver's pockets and struck them on the head with a handgun. Walker was involved in three additional armed carjackings between February 2021 and June 2022—one in Minneapolis and two in Saint Paul—using firearms to intimidate victims.

Walker was arrested on July 6, 2022, in Maplewood, MN, found in a stolen car with a Springfield Hellcat 9mm pistol. On November 26, 2024, he pleaded guilty to one count of carjacking and one count of receipt of a firearm while under felony indictment. Judge Katherine M. Menendez sentenced him today in U.S. District Court.

The investigation was conducted by the St. Paul Police Department, Minneapolis Police Department, Hennepin County Sheriff's Office, and Ramsey County Sheriff's Office with assistance from the FBI.

Assistant U.S. Attorneys William C. Mattessich and Mary Riverso prosecuted the case.
