Corey Whittico, a 22-year-old from Washington, D.C., received an 84-month federal prison sentence for live-streaming himself on social media while brandishing a pistol equipped with a machine gun conversion device. The incident occurred as he traveled from Maryland into the District. The video, viewed in real-time by Metropolitan Police officers, also showed over a kilogram of marijuana in the car's back seat.
The sentencing was announced by U.S. Attorney Edward R. Martin Jr. and Chief Pamela Smith of the Metropolitan Police Department. Whittico pleaded guilty on December 17, 2024, to unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition by a felon. Alongside his prison term, U.S. District Court Judge John D. Bates imposed three years of supervised release.
Court documents reveal that on December 19, 2023, at approximately 3:23 p.m., officers observed Whittico's Instagram livestream where he displayed a black Glock handgun modified with an aftermarket machine gun conversion device known as a "switch." He also showcased bags containing what appeared to be marijuana.
Officers tracked Whittico to the Clay Terrace neighborhood in Northeast Washington and conducted a traffic stop on East Capitol Street, SE. They discovered three packages of marijuana weighing over three pounds and two firearms under the front passenger seat—a modified Glock 27 loaded with 17 rounds and a Glock 45 loaded with 26 rounds.
Whittico is prohibited from possessing firearms due to his previous felony conviction for robbery in Prince George’s County in April 2023.
The case was investigated by the Metropolitan Police Department and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jared English and former Assistant U.S. Attorney Paul Courtney.
