Newburyport man admits guilt in home repair insurance fraud scheme

A Newburyport resident has admitted guilt in a scheme to defraud a home repair insurance provider. Christian Decristofaro, 40, entered his guilty plea in federal court in Boston to charges of wire fraud. U.S. District Court Judge Indira Talwani has set the sentencing date for June 23, 2025. Decristofaro was initially arrested and charged by criminal complaint in October 2024.

The case details reveal that Decristofaro manipulated NE Premier Home Services LLC (NE Premier), a home repair company under his control, to act as a contractor with the victimized insurance provider. Using false identities, he enrolled fictitious homeowners into insurance plans and reported fake home emergencies to the insurer. NE Premier was then falsely assigned these jobs, leading to fraudulent billings for work that never occurred. From October 2020 through June 2023, the insurance provider paid approximately $2,196,323 for non-existent services.

Wire fraud carries potential penalties including up to 20 years imprisonment, three years of supervised release, fines reaching $250,000 or twice the gross gain or loss from the offense, restitution, and forfeiture. Sentencing decisions are based on U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and related statutes.

The announcement was made by United States Attorney Leah B. Foley and Jodi Cohen of the FBI's Boston Division. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Meghan C. Cleary and Leslie A. Wright from the Criminal Division.
