The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) has expressed its support for the Ensuring Workers Get PAID Act, a legislative proposal introduced by Representative Glenn Grothman. This act aims to reinstate and formalize the Department of Labor’s Payroll Audit Independent Determination (PAID) program. The PAID program previously allowed small businesses to self-report and rectify minor wage and hour violations without facing immediate penalties.
Dylan Rosnick, NFIB Principal of Federal Government Relations, highlighted the significance of this program for small businesses. "Small businesses overwhelmingly support the PAID program," Rosnick stated. He noted that many small businesses lack dedicated compliance officers or human resources departments, which places the responsibility of payroll management on business owners themselves. According to Rosnick, the PAID program was instrumental in enabling these owners to correct unintentional errors before incurring significant penalties.
Rosnick further emphasized that as Congress considers economic and regulatory policies conducive to growth, reinstating the PAID program would assist honest small business owners in correcting minor infractions and ensuring legal compliance.
The NFIB has been an advocate for small and independent business owners across America for 80 years. It operates as a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization driven by its members' interests since its establishment in 1943.
