Maurice Felder, a 53-year-old resident of Washington, D.C., has been indicted on multiple charges related to a stabbing incident that occurred on November 10, 2024. The announcement was made by U.S. Attorney Edward R. Martin, Jr. and Chief Pamela Smith of the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD).
The grand jury in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia charged Felder with assault with intent to kill while armed, aggravated assault while armed, assault with a dangerous weapon, assault with significant bodily injury while armed, and possession of a prohibited weapon.
Felder is scheduled for arraignment on March 28, 2025, before Judge Judith Pipe.
According to the government's evidence, the incident took place around 1:00 a.m. when the victim and his friends were walking near the intersection of 7th Street N.W. and T Street N.W. They were visiting Washington, D.C., from Pennsylvania for the weekend. Felder allegedly followed them down the sidewalk and initiated a verbal altercation. When one member of the group attempted to intervene and de-escalate the situation by telling Felder to leave, Felder reportedly asked if he wanted to die before pulling out a knife and stabbing him in the chest. The victim suffered a stab wound close to his heart requiring immediate medical attention.
Felder was apprehended shortly after approximately one block from where the stabbing occurred. At arrest time, he matched descriptions given for the suspect involved in this crime; police recovered a knife from his pants pocket as well.
The Metropolitan Police Department is leading this investigation.
AUSA Valerie Tsesarenko from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia is prosecuting this case.
"An indictment is merely an allegation," officials noted; all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt within court proceedings.
