U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), in collaboration with federal, state, and local law enforcement, arrested 72 illegal aliens during a strategic enforcement operation in the Rio Grande Valley area from March 16 to 22. This operation aimed to enhance public, national, and border security. Among those arrested were 61 individuals classified as criminal aliens and two documented gang members.

The individuals targeted in this operation had been charged or convicted of various criminal offenses while being unlawfully present in the United States. These offenses included two aggravated felonies or other violent crimes such as homicide, aggravated assault, or domestic violence. Additionally, three individuals faced charges related to sex offenses, including aggravated sexual assault of minors and possession of child pornography.

Further arrests included one individual for illegal firearms offenses, eight for narcotics-related charges, four for burglary or theft, and seven for driving while intoxicated. Seven more were charged with alien smuggling under 8 USC 1324, while 14 faced charges under 8 USC 1326, and 13 were charged with 8 USC 1325 violations. Also arrested were one person charged with fraud and another with soliciting prostitution.

Robust enforcement efforts were emphasized by local ICE leadership. "The results of this operation are a clear indication of ICE’s commitment regarding the role we play in keeping our communities safe by locating, arresting and ultimately removing at-large criminal aliens who pose a threat to public safety, and other immigration fugitives," stated ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations Harlingen acting Field Office Director Robert Cerna.

Additionally, ICE Homeland Security Investigations San Antonio Special Agent in Charge Craig S. Larrabee remarked, "Through strong partnerships with federal, state and local law enforcement, ICE remains committed to protecting South Texas communities by targeting criminal aliens who pose a threat to public safety."

ICE encourages the public to report crimes and suspicious activities via their hotline at 866-DHS-2-ICE (866-347-2423) or through an online tip form.
