An Ellsworth resident has been sentenced for theft from the Cherryfield Post Office. Melissa Milliken, aged 33, appeared in U.S. District Court in Bangor where Judge John A. Woodcock, Jr. delivered the sentence, placing her on three years of probation and demanding payment of $17,130.22 in restitution.

Court documents reveal the U.S. Postal Service Office of Inspector General (USPS-OIG) initiated an investigation in October 2022 after learning of missing postal funds during stamp stock and cash assessments at the Cherryfield Post Office. Surveillance footage showed Milliken, a former postal clerk, pocketing money. She confessed to the thefts, stating they spanned approximately one year.

Investigators concluded that Milliken misappropriated over $17,130 in government funds between December 2021 and September 2023. The investigation was conducted by the USPS-OIG Northeast Area Field Office, led by Special Agent in Charge Matthew Modafferi.
