Ardmore man admits to illegal firearm possession after protective order violation

A resident of Ardmore, Oklahoma, has admitted to illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition, according to a recent announcement by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma. Jacob Layton Earley, 22, has pleaded guilty to a charge of Possession of Firearm and Ammunition by a Prohibited Person.

The indictment accuses Earley of possessing a semi-automatic rifle and multiple rounds of ammunition on December 21, 2022. Despite being aware of and receiving a protective order, he allegedly violated this order. The court order, issued on July 12, 2021, by the District Court of the Chickasaw Nation in Oklahoma, prohibited him from harassing, stalking, or threatening an intimate partner and explicitly banned him from using or threatening physical force likely to cause bodily harm.

The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. The plea was accepted by U.S. Magistrate Judge Jason A. Robertson in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma. A presentence investigation report was ordered following the plea, and Earley is held in custody by the United States Marshals Service until sentencing.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Lewis M. Reagan represented the United States in the case.
