A resident of Manchester, Stacyann M. Haylett, pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge Sarala V. Nagala in Hartford to making a false statement during the purchase of firearms. Marc H. Silverman, Acting United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, and James Ferguson, Special Agent in Charge of the ATF Boston Field Division, provided the announcement.

The case involved an ATF investigation that identified Haylett as a straw purchaser for a felon prohibited from obtaining firearms. Haylett admitted in court to purchasing a Glock Model 20, 10mm caliber pistol from a licensed dealer in Middletown on May 15, 2021. She falsely indicated on ATF Form 4473 that she was the actual purchaser when she intended the firearm for another individual. The firearm was later recovered from a fentanyl trafficker in New Haven on October 10, 2023.

Haylett's arrest occurred on July 15, 2024. Sentencing is set for July 9, where she might face up to 10 years imprisonment, though she remains free on a $25,000 bond until then.

The investigation is being managed by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), with prosecution by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Robert S. Dearington and Sean P. Mahard, alongside Trial Attorneys Jeremy Franker and Christopher Usher. This case is part of the Justice Department’s Violent Crime Initiative in Hartford, as well as the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force and Project Safe Neighborhood programs.
