A New Orleans resident, Joshua Williams, 21, was sentenced to 75 months in prison for possession of a firearm to further drug trafficking. He received five years of supervised release and a $100 mandatory special assessment fee following his guilty plea. This sentencing was handed down by Chief U.S. District Judge Nannette Jolivette Brown.
Court records indicate that a search warrant at Williams's home on April 4, 2022, resulted in the discovery of marijuana intended for sale and a digital scale. Additionally, officers found two firearms: a Glock Model 22, .40 caliber, and a Glock Model 19, nine-millimeter.
This conviction is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), an initiative to reduce violent crime through collaboration between law enforcement and communities. The Department of Justice emphasizes principles such as trust and legitimacy, support for community-based organizations, strategic enforcement priorities, and result measurement.
The investigation was conducted by the New Orleans Police Department and the United States Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Assistant United States Attorney Mary Katherine Kaufman from the General Crimes Unit is overseeing the prosecution.
