Timothy Ryan Wolfe, a 39-year-old resident of Huntington, West Virginia, received a sentence of three years of federal probation, including a year of home detention, for illegally dealing in firearms. This decision was delivered as Wolfe was found guilty of engaging in firearm sales without possessing a Federal Firearms License (FFL), between April 30, 2024, and June 6, 2024.
Court documents reveal that Wolfe used various social media platforms to advertise firearm sales. He admitted to acquiring firearms from FFL entities to resell them and also bought firearms intending to sell them later. Wolfe acknowledged his lack of proper licensing for dealing firearms, being aware of the legal need for an FFL due to the frequency of his transactions.
Over five separate occasions, Wolfe sold 11 firearms to a confidential informant at his residence. These transactions included two unregistered short-barrel rifles, one of which Wolfe converted following a request from the informant.
The sentence was given by United States District Judge Robert C. Chambers. Acting United States Attorney Lisa G. Johnston recognized the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) for their investigative efforts, while Assistant United States Attorney Stephanie Taylor handled the prosecution.
This case falls under Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and enhancing neighborhood safety, utilizing strategies focused on community trust, supporting violence prevention organizations, establishing strategic enforcement priorities, and evaluating results.
