The US Department of Labor has appointed Julia Pollak as its new Chief Economist. In her new role, Pollak will oversee economic research and provide analysis related to labor policies and programs.
Pollak expressed her enthusiasm for the position, stating, "I am honored to serve this administration and contribute to the Department of Labor’s mission. In this pivotal moment for the American workforce, I look forward to using rigorous analysis to promote economic prosperity for job seekers, workers, businesses, and retirees."
Before joining the Department of Labor, Pollak worked as Chief Economist at ZipRecruiter. Her career also includes roles as a doctoral fellow and assistant policy analyst at RAND Corporation and as an adjunct instructor of economics at Pepperdine University. Additionally, she has been a research assistant for defense studies at the Heritage Foundation.
Pollak is an alumna of Harvard University and holds a Master of Philosophy in Policy Analysis from the Pardee RAND Graduate School. Her background also includes service as a drilling reservist in the U.S. Navy from 2011 to 2022.
