Dallas man convicted of selling machinegun conversion devices on Instagram

Leigha Simonton, United States Attorney, Northern District of Texas | U.S. Attorney's Office for the Northern District of Texas

Corey Wilson, a 20-year-old from Dallas, was convicted for possession of an unregistered machinegun by Senior United States District Judge Barabara M. G. Lynn. The announcement was made by Acting United States Attorney for the Northern District of Texas, Chad E. Meacham. The conviction relates to incidents on May 30, 2023, and June 6, 2023.

The trial evidence showed that Wilson advertised machinegun conversion devices on Instagram, which could be used on AR-platform firearms for fully automatic firing. Although these could be cheaply made, Wilson priced them at $150 each.

Undercover ATF agents engaged Wilson for a purchase. During a transaction, Wilson demonstrated how to activate the devices so the firearms could fire automatically. On the recorded dates, Wilson sold six devices initially and twenty more shortly after, all within Northeast Dallas's Project Safe Neighborhood area.

Wilson faces a possible ten-year federal prison term for each count against him.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, & Explosives’ Dallas Field Division conducted the investigation. The prosecuting team includes Assistant United States Attorneys Robert Withers, Walt Junker, and Elise Aldendifer.

This case is part of "Operation Texas Kill Switch," a broader operation targeting machinegun conversion devices, also known as "switches," which illegally turn semi-automatic firearms into fully automatic ones. It is also part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a collaborative program aimed at lowering violent crime rates and enhancing neighborhood safety.
