The Department of State announced sanctions against six authorities from Beijing and Hong Kong. These sanctions target five individuals in leadership or official roles within the Hong Kong government. These individuals are alleged to have engaged in policies undermining Hong Kong's autonomy, including repression against individuals in the United States. Additionally, one person is sanctioned for implementing the National Security Law.
"The Hong Kong Policy Act Report" report was also published today for Congress, underscoring the Trump Administration's commitment to hold accountable those who deprive Hong Kong's people of their protected rights and freedoms or who engage in transnational repression on U.S. soil.
The sanctions were enacted under section 4(a)(iii)(A) and section 4(a)(i) of Executive Order 13936. This order aligns with legislative measures such as the United States-Hong Kong Policy Act of 1992, the Hong Kong Human Rights and Democracy Act of 2019, and the Hong Kong Autonomy Act of 2020, all related to Hong Kong. Additional details are available in the Fact Sheet and the Hong Kong Policy Report.
