A Louisiana court has accepted a guilty plea from Sehrelina Tardo, a 36-year-old from Tallahassee, Florida, who admitted to wire fraud related to an embezzlement scheme. According to Acting U.S. Attorney Michael M. Simpson, Tardo confessed to the fraudulent activities on March 26, 2025.
Tardo, a senior accountant at a New Orleans car dealership, manipulated financial records from November 2018 through May 2023. She concealed her embezzlement of customer deposits by creating fictitious journal entries in the company’s financial records. As part of her plea agreement, Tardo has agreed to pay restitution amounting to $535,750.77 to her former employer.
The court, presided over by Judge Jane Triche Milazzo, has scheduled Tardo's sentencing for June 25, 2025. At that time, Tardo could face penalties including up to twenty years of imprisonment, followed by three years of supervised release, a fine reaching $250,000, and a compulsory special assessment fee of $100.
Simpson praised the efforts of the Federal Bureau of Investigation in uncovering the scheme. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Nicholas D. Moses, the Healthcare Fraud Coordinator for the Financial Crimes Unit.
