Rachel C. Hernandez Acting United States Attorney for the District of Arizona | U.S. Attorney for the District of Arizona
Jackie Marie Peters, a resident of Mansfield, Texas, has been sentenced to 18 months in prison. This follows her guilty plea to charges of conspiracy to defraud. The sentencing, which took place on March 31, 2025, was handed down by United States District Judge G. Murray Snow. Following her prison term, Peters will undergo three years of supervised release.
The fraudulent activities occurred between January 2020 and April 2022. During this period, Peters's co-conspirators hacked into a tax-preparation firm's computer network in Arizona. They altered tax documents for over 40 individuals without the consent of either the individuals or the firm. In response, Peters opened 10 bank accounts across several banks. The banks in question received deposits of tax refunds generated from these manipulated documents. Ultimately, Peters moved more than $2.5 million from these accounts to purchase cryptocurrency.
The IRS Criminal Investigation Phoenix Field Office was responsible for investigating the case. The prosecution was managed by the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Arizona, based in Phoenix.
