The Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) announced that Rahul Varma has been appointed as the Acting Director of the Division of Market Oversight. The announcement was made by the Acting Chairman Caroline D. Pham, who acknowledged Varma's extensive experience in the field.
“Rahul has ably served the CFTC for more than a decade and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to this new role,” said Pham. “I thank Rahul for his continued leadership in DMO.”
Rahul Varma's experience with the CFTC began in 2013 when he joined as an Associate Director for Market Surveillance within the Division of Market Oversight (DMO), focusing on energy, metals, agricultural, and softs markets. In 2017, he played a key role in establishing the Market Intelligence Branch in DMO, serving as its Acting Deputy Director. In 2024, he was promoted to Deputy Director for the combined Market Intelligence and Product Review branches.
Before his tenure at the CFTC, Varma held various roles in risk management and consulting within the private sector and was part of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission’s Office of Market Oversight and Investigations.
Varma is an alumnus of IIT Delhi and holds a master’s degree from Case Western Reserve University and an MBA from George Washington University.
Varma's new role as Acting Director marks a continuation of his leadership contributions to the Commission.
