Supercan Bulk recalls pig ear pet treats due to Salmonella contamination

ORGANIZATIONS IN THIS STORY

Supercan Bulk, based in Miami, Florida, has initiated a recall of one specific lot of its pet treats, Supercan Pig Ear Slivers - Thick Cut Piggy Ear Slices, packaged in 500-piece 15.9 oz bags. This decision follows the discovery of Salmonella contamination in the treats. The impacted bags hold an expiration date of 11/09/2026, clearly noted on the backside.

Such contamination poses health risks to both pets and humans. Pets consuming these contaminated treats may exhibit symptoms such as lethargy, diarrhea (which may be bloody), fever, and vomiting. Some pets might display only decreased appetite and abdominal pain, while still acting as carriers capable of spreading the infection. Pet owners observing these symptoms in their pets after consumption of the recalled product should consult with a veterinarian.

Humans handling the contaminated pet products are also at risk. Healthy individuals infected with Salmonella might experience symptoms ranging from nausea and vomiting to diarrhea, abdominal cramping, and fever. More severe conditions could develop in rare cases. Those displaying symptoms after coming into contact with the product are advised to seek medical attention.

The presence of Salmonella was confirmed following tests conducted on 03/04/2025 by the Washington State Department of Agriculture. The contamination was traced to a distribution lot sent to a North 40 store in Washington State, starting from 04/11/2024. There have been no reported cases of illness linked to the recalled product so far.

Supercan Bulk is managing the recall process in compliance with the FDA's guidance. Consumers who purchased the affected pet treats should return them to the place of purchase or dispose of them safely to prevent access by children and wildlife. It is essential to not sell, donate, or feed the recalled products to any animals. Additionally, consumers should sanitize any contact surfaces and wash hands thoroughly after handling the product. For refunds or further information, customers can contact the company at (689) 808-5419 from Monday to Friday between 8 am to 5 pm ET.
