Two New York men were sentenced for their involvement in a 2016 violent home invasion in Rangeley aimed at stealing drugs. U.S. District Judge Nancy Torresen in Bangor sentenced Andre Muller, 54, to 200 months in prison, and Robert Holland, 45, to 188 months, each followed by three years of supervised release. Both were found guilty on November 23, 2023, after a three-day jury trial.

As presented in court, in July 2016, Muller, Holland, and four others plotted to steal controlled substances from a home in Rangeley. Muller traveled from New York City with Hector Munoz, 57, from Florida, to meet with Holland and another associate. On July 28, 2016, Munoz and another co-conspirator, armed with knives, attempted the robbery. The intended victim shot and killed one of the intruders, who remains unnamed by the U.S. Attorney’s Office as they were not charged.

Muller and Holland were initially convicted after a five-day trial ending in August 2022. However, Judge Torresen ordered a new trial due to juror prejudgment, leading to the second trial in November 2023.

Hector Munoz pleaded guilty on January 15, 2020, to conspiring to interfere with commerce by robbery and was sentenced to time served on January 12, 2024.

The investigation was carried out by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Maine State Police, Rangeley Police Department, U.S. Border Patrol, and Carrabassett Valley Police Department, assisted by the Maine Office of the Attorney General.
