Border Patrol agents from the Rio Grande Valley Sector Anti-Smuggling Unit, in collaboration with the Cameron County Constables Precinct 2 Office, arrested a suspected Gulf Cartel member in the United States on April 2, 2025. The apprehended individual, Fabian Silva-Aguirre, also known as "Comandante Pony," was detained during a traffic stop near Brownsville, Texas.
Silva-Aguirre is a Mexican national unlawfully present in the United States. He is suspected of being associated with the Gulf Cartel and involved in narcotics and illegal alien smuggling. Legal proceedings against Silva-Aguirre will be pursued in the federal district court for illegal re-entry into the country after deportation.
"This arrest demonstrates our commitment to dismantling criminal organizations like the Gulf Cartel. By apprehending this individual, we are not only safeguarding our borders but sending a clear message that we will relentlessly pursue those who seek to exploit our nation's security," stated RGV Sector Chief Gloria I. Chavez.
