Demonta King, 18, from Chevy Chase, Maryland, pleaded guilty today in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia for his involvement in two violent crimes. U.S. Attorney Edward R. Martin, Jr. and Chief Pamela Smith of the Metropolitan Police Department announced the plea.
King admitted to charges related to an armed carjacking and an armed robbery. The Honorable Jennifer Di Toro has scheduled his sentencing for June 16, 2025.
Based on the evidence presented by the government, the carjacking occurred on November 18, 2024, around 1:50 a.m., in the 5000 block of Fort Totten Drive, NE. King, armed with a knife, confronted a taxicab driver standing near his vehicle, demanded the victim's belongings, and stabbed him in the hand. King absconded with the taxicab and other personal items. Police later found the vehicle speeding on Chillum Road in Hyattsville, MD, where King crashed and tried to flee on foot before being stopped by officers.
The earlier robbery took place on August 26, 2022, at approximately 5:45 a.m., in the 100 Block of Gallatin Street and 1st Place NE. King approached a victim, brandished a gun, and forcibly took the victim's backpack and phone. He also struck the victim with the firearm. King was 16 years old at the time and was prosecuted as an adult under Title 16.
King was arrested at the scene of the carjacking and has remained in custody since his arrest. The Metropolitan Police Department and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia investigated this case, which is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jacob Green.
