Alison J. Ramsdell U.S. Attorney | U.S. Attorney for the District of South Dakota
A Rapid City man has been sentenced to over three years in federal prison for failing to appear in court. U.S. District Judge Camela C. Theeler handed down the sentence to Patrick Brewer, Sr., 49, on March 31, 2025. Brewer, already serving a 46-month sentence for an assault charge from 2024, will now serve an additional 37 months consecutively for his failure to appear.
The case initiated when Brewer was indicted by a federal grand jury in August 2024 for not reporting to serve his prison term related to a domestic violence assault conviction. Despite pleading guilty on January 22, 2025, Brewer had evaded authorities after disregarding the court's self-surrender order. He was finally apprehended in December 2024 by the U.S. Marshals Service.
Upon sentencing Brewer to the additional term, the district court condemned his lack of respect for the law and non-compliance with the court's directive. Brewer's cumulative prison term will now be 83 months.
The proceedings were led by the U.S. Marshals Service, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Anna Lindrooth prosecuting the case. After the sentence was pronounced, Brewer was remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service.
