On Friday, April 4, 2025, a federal jury found Andrew David Munsinger, 41, from Redwood Falls, Minnesota, guilty of illegal possession of firearms and ammunition and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute. This was announced by Acting U.S. Attorney Lisa D. Kirkpatrick.
The trial revealed that Munsinger was linked to the Aryan Freedom Network, a white supremacist group. He became the focus of an FBI investigation that lasted over a year. The FBI collected evidence, including audio and video recordings, showing Munsinger handling and using firearms and ammunition. He also admitted to the FBI that he was aware of his legal restrictions on firearm possession. On February 7, 2024, search warrants were executed at Munsinger's home, his vehicles, and a nearby farm. The authorities found five firearms, including semi-automatic rifles made personally by Munsinger, shotguns, and a pistol. They also seized many rounds of ammunition, high-capacity magazines, firearm accessories, a bullet-resistant vest, over five pounds of marijuana, a grow operation, and $24,300 in cash. Due to his previous felony convictions, Munsinger was barred from owning firearms or ammunition.
"The safety and security of Minnesotans is of the upmost importance to my office. We will ensure Munsinger—and all others who bring violence and drugs to Minnesota—sees federal justice," stated Acting U.S. Attorney Lisa D. Kirkpatrick. "We are grateful to the FBI for their work on this investigation."
Special Agent in Charge Alvin M. Winston Sr. of the FBI in Minneapolis added, "A convicted felon with a cache of firearms, ammunition, and drugs is a clear threat to public safety. The FBI and our partners will not tolerate individuals who break the law and promote extremist views that incite violence. Together, we will continue to disrupt violent extremists and prevent convicted felons from arming themselves and endangering others."
Munsinger faced a five-day trial in the U.S. District Court under the supervision of Judge John R. Tunheim. He was convicted on charges of being a felon in possession of firearms and ammunition and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.
The FBI and the Joint Terrorism Task Force conducted the investigation. The prosecution was led by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Benjamin Bejar and Raphael B. Coburn.
