Following President Donald Trump's executive order aimed at accelerating permitting and expanding access to critical resources for manufacturing, the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) President and CEO Jay Timmons released a statement supporting the move. Timmons highlighted the longstanding issues of red tape and regulations that have hindered U.S. manufacturing, particularly in mining and processing minerals essential for job creation and global competitiveness.
Timmons said, "For too long, red tape and burdensome regulations have stood in the way of the basic building blocks that power manufacturing in the United States, especially mining and processing the minerals manufacturers rely on to create jobs and dominate on the world stage." He emphasized that the administration's actions are making it easier for manufacturers to access necessary resources domestically.
The NAM has committed to continuing its role as a resource for the Trump administration to secure supply chains within America and reduce reliance on countries like China. Timmons noted, "A comprehensive manufacturing strategy—one that cements America’s position as the manufacturing superpower—depends on smart permitting reforms like the ones the administration is advancing."
Timmons also recalled President Trump's promise at a September 2024 board meeting to expedite permitting processes, stating that he has fulfilled this commitment. The NAM looks forward to collaborating with Trump's National Energy Dominance Council, led by Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum and Secretary of Energy Chris Wright.
The NAM represents a significant portion of U.S. manufacturing, employing nearly 13 million people and contributing $2.93 trillion annually to the economy. It remains a leading advocate for policies that enhance global competitiveness and job creation in America.
