A man from Lexington, Chase Allen Barnett, has been sentenced to over 16 years in federal prison for trafficking methamphetamine and fentanyl. The decision was made by U.S. District Judge Karen Caldwell, who sentenced Barnett to 200 months behind bars for distributing a mixture containing methamphetamine and fentanyl, along with possessing over 50 grams of methamphetamine and 40 grams of fentanyl with the intent to distribute.
Court documents revealed that from February 10 to February 20, 2023, Barnett supplied these substances to a confidential informant from a hotel in Lexington. A search of Barnett's hotel room on February 21, 2023, uncovered fentanyl, methamphetamine, digital scales, drug packaging materials, cash amounting to $6,234, ammunition, and firearm magazines. The total amount of drugs involved included 197.299 grams of fentanyl and 379.894 grams of methamphetamine.
Barnett is required to serve 85 percent of his sentence under federal law. After his release, he will be supervised by the U.S. Probation Office for eight years.
This sentencing was announced by Paul McCaffrey, Acting United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Kentucky, along with John Nokes of the ATF Louisville Field Division and Commander Kalan Perdue of the Gateway High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area Task Force. The ATF and Gateway HIDTA Task Force conducted the investigation, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Brittany Baker prosecuting the case.
