Man sentenced to prison for bank fraud and mail theft in Sacramento

Michele Beckwith Acting U.S. Attorney | U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of California

Senior U.S. District Court Judge John A. Mendez has sentenced Adam Lee from Orangevale, Sacramento County, to five years and four months in prison. The sentence comes after Lee was convicted of bank fraud, possession of stolen mail, and possession of mail keys or locks. The announcement was made by Acting U.S. Attorney Michele Beckwith.

Court documents reveal that Lee counterfeited postal keys, which he then used to steal mail from various mailboxes. By doing so, Lee collected identifying and financial information, as well as bank checks belonging to others. He then attempted to negotiate, deposit, or cash these stolen checks. Alongside his co-defendant, Windy Lund, Lee was found in possession of more than $273,000 in stolen checks, which they either attempted to negotiate or possessed with the intent to do so.

The investigation was carried out by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, and the case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Elliot C. Wong.

Windy Lund is awaiting sentencing and is scheduled to appear before Judge Mendez on April 22, 2025.
