Jonathon Mark Brinlee, a resident of Calera, Oklahoma, has pleaded guilty to making a false statement during the purchase of a firearm, according to the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma. The 39-year-old admitted to one count of the offense, which carries a maximum sentence of 10 years imprisonment and a fine of up to $250,000.
The case against Brinlee stemmed from an incident on November 11, 2024, where he allegedly provided false information to a licensed firearm dealer, denying the existence of a court order against him when there was indeed one. This plea followed an investigation by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, along with the Choctaw Nation Lighthorse Police.
U.S. Magistrate Judge D. Edward Snow of the Eastern District of Oklahoma's U.S. District Court accepted Brinlee's plea and requested a presentence investigation report. The final decision regarding Brinlee's sentence will be made by a U.S. District Court Judge, who will take into account U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory elements before issuing a judgment.
Until the sentencing decision, Brinlee will remain in the custody of the United States Marshals Service. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jonathan E. Soverly.
