U.S. announces sanctions on Iran's nuclear program linked entities

ORGANIZATIONS IN THIS STORY

The United States government has imposed new sanctions on five entities and one individual based in Iran. These sanctions are aimed at those supporting key organizations involved in Iran's nuclear program, notably the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) and its subordinate, Iran Centrifuge Technology Company (TESA).

According to the U.S. Department of the Treasury, "Today's action, which targets persons procuring or manufacturing critical technologies for TESA and AEOI, is taken in support of President Trump’s maximum pressure campaign on Iran." This move is part of ongoing efforts to hold accountable those providing assistance to Iran's nuclear ambitions, including the nation's uranium enrichment activities which are deemed sensitive regarding proliferation risks.

The sanctions were executed under Executive Order 13382, aiming to curb the spread of weapons of mass destruction by targeting the entities and individuals supporting their proliferation.
