A Cut Bank resident was sentenced to 24 months in prison for assaulting a teenager, the U.S. Attorney Kurt Alme announced. The 21-year-old, Elijah John Bullcalf, had pleaded guilty to assault resulting in serious bodily injury in December 2024.

The case was presided over by Chief U.S. District Judge Brian Morris. Court documents reveal that the incident occurred on May 25, 2023, when Bullcalf assaulted a 17-year-old, referred to as Jane Doe, in her home. The altercation began after Bullcalf saw a text he disliked on Doe’s phone. He proceeded to bite her hand and punch her in the face, breaking her jaw.

Initially, Bullcalf prevented Doe from seeking medical help, taking her to his house instead. Eventually, after hours of pain, he took her to the hospital, instructing her to claim she had slipped and fallen. Doe underwent surgery to insert two metal plates in her jaw, one of which is permanent. She also reported that Bullcalf struck her again a month later in the same area, causing further pain and bleeding.

An investigation conducted by the FBI and Blackfeet Law Enforcement Services led to Bullcalf's admission of assault during a recorded interview with law enforcement in March 2024. The U.S. Attorney’s Office handled the prosecution.
