Salvadoran national indicted for unlawful reentry in Boston

A Salvadoran national has been charged by a federal grand jury in Boston for returning to the United States following deportation. Arsenio Valladares, 44, faces one count of unlawful reentry of a deported alien, and is scheduled to appear in federal court in Boston at a forthcoming date.

As stated in the indictment, Valladares was deported from the United States on or around April 23, 2008. It is alleged that he unlawfully reentered the country without permission after his deportation.

Before his removal, Valladares had been convicted of several offenses, including assault and battery with a deadly weapon, assault and battery on a police officer, numerous assault and battery charges, operating under the influence, larceny, and malicious destruction of property. In November 2024, federal immigration authorities learned of Valladares' presence in the United States upon notification that his fingerprints were taken for criminal charges in Massachusetts. Immigration and Customs Enforcement detained him on March 18, 2025.

The charge of unlawful reentry could result in a prison sentence of up to 10 years, a fine of up to $250,000, and three years of supervised release. Completion of any imposed sentence would subject the defendant to deportation. Federal district court judges determine sentences based on U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and controlling statutes.

United States Attorney Leah B. Foley and Patricia H. Hyde, Field Office Director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations in Boston, announced the indictment. Assistant U.S. Attorney Olivia Benjamin is handling the prosecution.

The allegations in the charging documents are accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
