Farm Bureau comments on tariff pause's impact on American agriculture

American Farm Bureau Federation President Zippy Duvall expressed his views on President Trump's recent decision to temporarily pause and reduce reciprocal tariffs. Duvall said, "Farm Bureau appreciates President Trump’s decision to pause the reciprocal tariffs on dozens of America’s trading partners for 90 days." He emphasized that the organization has been in direct communication with the White House, U.S. Trade Representative, and U.S. Department of Agriculture about the impact of tariffs on American farmers and ranchers.

Duvall highlighted that tariffs are adding pressure to farmers who are already facing high supply costs and decreasing incomes. He noted that over 20% of U.S. farm income is at risk due to these market challenges. "We’re encouraged that those concerns are being heard," he added.

While acknowledging the temporary relief provided by the pause, Duvall pointed out ongoing uncertainties regarding long-term competitiveness in global markets. He urged the administration to resolve trade disputes quickly and develop strategies that support American farmers' ability to supply food domestically and internationally.
