Api welcomes exclusion of oil and gas from new tariffs

The American Petroleum Institute (API) has expressed approval of the Trump administration's decision to exclude oil and natural gas from new reciprocal tariffs. API President and CEO Mike Sommers commented on the development, stating, "We welcome President Trump's decision to exclude oil and natural gas from new tariffs, underscoring the complexity of integrated global energy markets and the importance of America's role as a net energy exporter. We will continue working with the Trump administration on trade policies that support American energy dominance."

API represents various segments of the U.S. natural gas and oil industry, which supports nearly 11 million jobs across the country. The organization has approximately 600 members involved in producing, processing, and distributing most of the nation's energy. API is also known for its API Energy Excellence initiative, which promotes environmental and safety advancements through new technologies and transparent reporting.

Founded in 1919 as a standards-setting body, API has developed over 800 standards aimed at enhancing operational safety, efficiency, and sustainability within the industry.
