A former resident of Scarborough, Garrett McDonald, was sentenced in a U.S. District Court in Portland for assaulting a federal officer. The sentencing was conducted by U.S. District Judge Nancy Torresen, who imposed a punishment of two years of probation on McDonald, following his guilty plea on October 22, 2024.

The incident occurred on August 6, 2023, when McDonald was removed from a flight at Portland International Jetport. Airline crew requested assistance from law enforcement due to McDonald’s conduct on board. During the process of removal, McDonald engaged in an altercation with a Portland police officer and a federal security officer, who both were attempting to escort him from the aircraft. McDonald resisted and pushed one officer. Although the officers managed to secure a handcuff on McDonald's left wrist, he broke free with his right hand and struck the federal officer with his fist.

The investigation involved the FBI, Federal Air Marshal Service, and the Portland Police Department.
