A Browning man was sentenced to 15 months in prison for failing to register as a sex offender and attempting to flee law enforcement, according to U.S. Attorney Kurt Alme. The defendant, Austin Kade Goings, aged 27, pleaded guilty in October 2024 to the charges, which included a felony for failure to register and a misdemeanor for eluding a peace officer.
Chief U.S. District Judge Brian M. Morris oversaw the proceedings.
The government argued in court documents that Goings was on federal supervised release following a guilty plea to sexual abuse of a minor. He was initially sentenced in April 2021 to 21 months in custody and five years of supervised release. After his release in January 2024, Goings failed to update his sex offender registration, violating Montana state law, prompting the issuance of a warrant for his arrest for violations of supervised release conditions.
In an incident on July 25, 2024, an undercover officer identified Goings on the Blackfeet Indian Reservation. Aware of Goings’ federal arrest warrant, law enforcement attempted a traffic stop. Goings led officers on a high-speed chase, ignoring stop signs, and exceeding speed limits by significant margins. The pursuit, involving the Glacier County Sheriff’s Office and Blackfeet Law Enforcement Services, ended near the border after covering 45 miles. Goings was arrested, and three other passengers, including two minors, were in the vehicle.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office is handling the prosecution with investigative support from the U.S. Marshals Service, Blackfeet Law Enforcement Services, the Glacier County Sheriff’s Office, and the U.S. Border Patrol.
