U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Port of Hidalgo recently intercepted a significant amount of cocaine worth a total of $1,200,800 in three separate findings at the Pharr, Hidalgo, and Anzalduas international crossings.

Port Director Carlos Rodriguez at the Hidalgo/Pharr/Anzalduas Port of Entry stated, "CBP officers at all our international crossings remain vigilant and are excellent with our tools and techniques at finding and extracting narcotics."

The first interception occurred on April 11 when officers at the Pharr International Bridge stopped a silver Chevrolet sedan entering from Mexico. The vehicle was subjected to further inspection using nonintrusive equipment and a canine team, which led to the discovery of 10 packages of cocaine, weighing 24.16 pounds, concealed within the vehicle.

The following day, officers at the Hidalgo International Bridge inspected a silver Ford sedan. Using similar inspection techniques, officers found nine packages of cocaine weighing 20.15 pounds hidden in the vehicle.

Later on April 12, at the Anzalduas International Bridge, officers examined a grey Chevrolet sedan. The inspection revealed 20 packages of cocaine, totaling 48.54 pounds, concealed in the vehicle.

The CBP Office of Field Operations seized the drugs and vehicles involved. Homeland Security Investigations special agents have arrested the drivers and started criminal investigations.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is the primary law enforcement organization in the country, tasked with protecting the nation's borders. Its personnel work to ensure safe, lawful travel and trade to support the country's economic prosperity.
