Acting United States Attorney Matthew R. Molsen disclosed that Dustin Lee Vittitoe, aged 23, from Omaha, Nebraska, received a 97-month prison sentence for possession of child pornography. The sentencing took place on April 10, 2025, at a federal court in Omaha, presided over by United States District Judge Brian C. Buescher. Vittitoe will not be eligible for parole and is required to serve an eight-year term of supervised release upon completing his prison sentence.

The case began on January 21, 2023, when the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office attended to a report of child pornography being accessed on a cell phone. Authorities confirmed that Vittitoe had child pornography on his phone and within the MEGA application he used. His MEGA account was verified, and a federal search warrant was executed at his residence on February 22, 2023. Various electronic devices were seized for forensic examination. Analysis revealed that Vittitoe actively solicited and searched for child pornography through multiple applications, totaling at least 411 image files. These files depicted prepubescent children, adults involved with children, and sadistic and masochistic conduct involving minors.

This investigation was conducted under Project Safe Childhood, a national effort initiated by the Department of Justice in May 2006 to address the rampant issue of child sexual exploitation and abuse. Project Safe Childhood involves federal, state, and local resources to locate, arrest, and prosecute individuals engaged in exploiting children online, along with efforts to identify and rescue victims. The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office carried out the investigation for this case.
