U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) recently intercepted 339 pounds of cocaine near the Ambassador Bridge in Detroit. The operation involved a Canada-bound commercial vehicle that was selected for examination. During the inspection, officers found bricks of a white powdery substance hidden in two duffel bags and four moving boxes. Tests confirmed the substance as cocaine.

"Our ports of entry are not throughfares for illegal drugs and we will continue to hold the line against transnational criminal activity," said Acting Port Director David Beculheimer. The truck, trailer, and cocaine were seized, and the driver, an Indian citizen, is now facing federal charges.

Director of Field Operations Marty C. Raybon emphasized the importance of stopping those who exploit trade processes for illegal activities. "We work diligently to enable fair, competitive, and compliant trade, and a significant part of that is stopping those who seek to exploit import and export processes for illicit gain," he said. Raybon also highlighted the role of regional law enforcement in holding offenders accountable.

The case is currently under investigation by ICE Homeland Security Investigations. This seizure is part of a larger effort by CBP Field Operations, which has confiscated over 1,500 pounds of cocaine at Michigan ports of entry in Fiscal Year 2025.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection remains dedicated to protecting America by facilitating secure travel and trade. It is the nation's largest law enforcement organization and the world's first unified border management agency, employing more than 65,000 people to safeguard the country's land, air, and sea frontiers.
