U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), with the assistance of the FBI, Drug Enforcement Administration, U.S. Marshals Service, and other agencies, arrested five individuals in Vega Baja, Puerto Rico, on April 10. The operation targeted a construction worksite and involved multiple agencies, including U.S. Customs and Border Protection's Air and Marine Operations, the Office of Field Operations, U.S. Border Patrol, Vega Baja Municipal Police, and the Puerto Rico Police Bureau. Those arrested included one Haitian national and four Dominican nationals. They are currently detained by ICE pending removal proceedings.

"Through worksite enforcement investigations, ICE often uncovers more than just unauthorized employment — many cases reveal serious crimes like document fraud, human smuggling, and human trafficking," stated Rebecca González-Ramos, the Special Agent in Charge of ICE Homeland Security Investigations San Juan. "Following the president’s executive order, ICE San Juan will continue enforcing the immigration laws in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands."

ICE officials reiterated the agency's focus on identifying threats to public safety and national security. Those unlawfully present in the United States, encountered during such operations, may be detained and processed for removal as per federal law.

The public is encouraged to report any suspected immigration violations or related criminal activities by contacting the ICE Tip Line at 866-DHS-2-ICE (866-347-2423) or providing information online. For further updates on ICE HSI San Juan's efforts to enhance public safety in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands, the public can follow their social media accounts.
