Jackson man sentenced to 37 months for firearm possession as a felon

A Jackson man, Devontae Stamps, has been sentenced to 37 months in prison for being in possession of a firearm as a convicted felon. The Jackson Police Department found him with a firearm after responding to a complaint from a property owner who reported that Stamps would not leave his property.

Stamps, who has a history of felony convictions, was previously convicted of burglary in 2012 and armed robbery in 2013. Under federal law, individuals with felony convictions are prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition.

He was indicted by a federal grand jury on January 9, 2024, and pled guilty on January 8, 2025. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Matt Allen.

The announcement was made by Acting U.S. Attorney Patrick A. Lemon of the Southern District of Mississippi and Special Agent in Charge Robert Eikhoff of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The investigation was conducted jointly by the FBI and the Jackson Police Department.

This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program that aims to reduce violent crime and gun violence by fostering trust in communities, supporting violence prevention organizations, setting focused enforcement priorities, and measuring results.
