The United States Department of Defense has announced a consolidation of U.S. forces in Syria under the Combined Joint Task Force – Operation Inherent Resolve. This move is described as a deliberate, conditions-based process aimed at reducing the U.S. military footprint to fewer than a thousand troops in the region within the coming months.

Chief Pentagon Spokesman Sean Parnell emphasized, "This consolidation reflects the significant steps we have made toward degrading ISIS' appeal and operational capability regionally and globally." The reduction in forces comes after ten years of efforts by the Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS, notably marked by the ISIS territorial defeat in 2019.

The U.S. Central Command has played a crucial role, conducting numerous air strikes over the past year intended to weaken ISIS’s strength. Despite the reduction in troops, Sean Parnell assured that U.S. Central Command remains ready to continue targeting ISIS remnants. "We will also work closely with capable and willing Coalition partners to maintain pressure on ISIS and respond to any other terrorist threats that arise," he added.

The consolidation aligns with former President Trump's policy of 'peace through strength.' The Pentagon has reiterated its commitment to maintaining vigilance against terrorism globally, ensuring nowhere is a safe haven for ISIS. "We are committed to ensuring our partners' ability to further degrade ISIS and other terrorists within the region," Parnell stated.

An important aspect of this mission includes addressing the populations of displaced and detained ISIS-linked individuals in northeast Syria. "We call on the international community to repatriate their nationals," Parnell urged.

While the U.S. is adjusting its military presence in Syria, the Department of Defense maintains its capability to respond dynamically to security developments. More updates will be provided as the situation evolves.
