Okemah resident pleads guilty to federal firearm possession charge

Eric Jason Franklin, a resident of Okemah, Oklahoma, has pled guilty to a federal firearm charge. The United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma announced that Franklin, aged 53, acknowledged guilt to one count of Felon in Possession of Firearm and Ammunition, a charge that could result in up to 15 years in prison and a fine of $250,000.

According to the indictment, on July 15, 2024, Franklin was found in possession of a .410-gauge pump-action shotgun and 15 rounds of matching ammunition. This was despite his prior conviction for a crime that carried a potential prison term of more than one year.

The investigation leading to this charge was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives. The plea was accepted by U.S. Magistrate Judge D. Edward Snow in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma. Judge Snow has ordered the completion of a presentence investigation report.

The final sentence will be determined by a U.S. District Court Judge, who will consider the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines along with other legal factors. Franklin is currently in the custody of the United States Marshals Service while awaiting sentencing.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael E. Robinson.
